The new BERNINA Placement Scanner and camera scan the hooped fabric you are about to stitch on; so now, placement of your pattern is as precise as it gets. New stitch plate recognition automatically recognises the stitch plate once attached to the machine. If the plate is not compatible with the selected stitch pattern, needle or presser foot, the machine will not sew as an added security measure.
Built in Wi-Fi connectivity and BERNINA Stitchout App allows you to send designs directly from your BERNINA Embroidery Software 9 to your 990, and the other way around
The app allows you to monitor the progress of your embroidery on your smartphone or tablet from another room in your house, this means you will be notified of thread breakages or thread changes at the time of it happening.

The BERNINA Integrated Stitch Regulator (BISR) guarantees precise stitch quality and results at any speed during free-motion quilting. The BSR is wonderful for first time free motioning quilters, and also for those who just find it hard to step away from the straight line sewing and become fluid with the curves. The BSR regulates the speed of the needle to the speed that you are moving thou could on a long arm Q series machine, creating the perfect stitch length every time. The beautiful thing about the BISR on the B990 is that you can now use any free motion foot you like while your stich length is kept even. That means you can now do ruler work with the BISR like you can on the long arm Q series machines.
The BERNINA Hook on the B990 sews high-precision stitches up to 9 mm in width with speeds up to 1,200 stitches per minute and is the quietest machine we have. The bobbin holds 70% more thread than standard bobbins.
The innovative BERNINA Dual Feed is easily engaged when needed and tucks completely out of the way when it’s not. It is designed to handle special fabrics with ease
The B990 PLUS offers an extended free arm including 14 inches of space to the right of the needle. Enjoy a large sewing and embroidery area.
The BERNINA Adaptive Thread Tension adjusts the tension electronically to the selected stitch width, length, speed, and needle position on each penetration of the needle into the fabric.
